Hello! My name is Lilli Mucica, and I am part of Vols Put a Hand Up for Women’s Worth! Being a part of this campaign and working with the Hand Up for Women nonprofit has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It has taught me the importance of support systems and the value of uplifting others during difficult times. Supporting women in need and making a positive impact in the community is something I’m proud to be involved in.
My Grade School Support System
I grew up in Buffalo, New York, surrounded by my close-knit family. As the youngest in a family that never left our hometown, I was fortunate to always have my family cheering me on. I’ve always loved sports, and joining different teams gave me an extended support system. Whether it was playing volleyball or lacrosse, my teammates became like a second family. We pushed each other to do better, laughed through the wins, and supported each other during losses. I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything. Sports taught me how important it is to rely on others and be there for them, both on and off the field.
My College Support System
Leaving Buffalo for college was a big step for me—I was the first person in my family to travel out of state for school. Moving to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, was both exciting and overwhelming. Being so far from my family was a huge adjustment, but it made me realize just how much they’ve shaped me. They’ve always been my biggest cheerleaders, and their constant encouragement has helped me adjust to college life.
I’ve also found support in new ways. Working as a waitress at a local restaurant and coaching middle school volleyball and lacrosse has connected me with some incredible people. These experiences remind me that support systems can come from unexpected places, whether it’s a coworker who helps me navigate a busy shift or a group of young athletes looking up to me as a coach.
How My Experience Relates to Our Campaign
Working on the Hand Up for Women campaign has deepened my appreciation for the support I’ve received throughout my life. Just like I’ve relied on my family, teammates, and coworkers, the women in this program rely on Hand Up for Women to guide them during tough times.
This campaign is about more than just raising awareness; it’s about building a community of support for women who need it most. Everyone deserves a helping hand, and Hand Up for Women provides that, helping women rebuild their confidence and lives. I’m honored to be part of this mission and to help create a brighter future for women in need.
